Death Document

How We Protect Your Privacy

Your information is deeply personal. We built this tool with the simplest and most effective privacy model possible: your data never leaves your device.

We cannot read your data because we never receive it. There is no server-side storage, no encryption needed, and no data transmission. Your information exists only in your browser's memory while you use the form.

How It Works

Death Document is a client-side web application. This means the form runs entirely in your web browser. Here's what that means for your privacy:

What HappensWhere
You type information into the formYour browser only
Form data is stored in memoryYour browser only
You click "Print" or "Download PDF"Your browser only
You close the pageData is gone forever
Data sent to our serversNever

We chose this architecture deliberately. By never receiving your data, we eliminate entire categories of risk: there is nothing to hack, nothing to leak, and nothing for anyone to subpoena.

What Our Server Does

Our server has one job: deliver the web page (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) to your browser. Once the page loads, the server is no longer involved. It's like downloading a blank form — the form itself doesn't report back what you write on it.

Zero Tracking. Zero Analytics.

We don't use Google Analytics. We don't use Facebook Pixel. We don't use any third-party tracking scripts. We don't fingerprint your browser.

There are no cookies tracking your behavior. There are no invisible pixels watching what you do. There is no advertising network building a profile of you.

We don't even know how many people use this service, because we don't count. Your privacy is more important than our metrics.

Security Headers

Even though we don't handle your data, we still enforce strict security headers to protect you while using the site:

  • Content Security Policy (CSP): Restricts scripts, styles, and connections to same-origin only. Third-party scripts are blocked entirely.
  • Strict Transport Security (HSTS): Forces HTTPS connections with preload, preventing downgrade attacks.
  • X-Frame-Options: Prevents the site from being embedded in iframes, protecting against clickjacking.
  • Permissions Policy: Disables unnecessary browser features like camera, microphone, geolocation, payment, USB, and Bluetooth.
  • Referrer Policy: Set to "no-referrer" so no information about your visit is leaked to other sites.

Your Printed Document

Once you print or download your document, its security is entirely in your hands. We recommend:

  • Store it in a fireproof safe or safe deposit box
  • Give a copy to your attorney or executor
  • Tell trusted family members where to find it
  • Do not include highly sensitive information like Social Security numbers, PINs, or passwords — instead, note where those can be found
  • Review and update it periodically as your life changes

Remember: Your printed document is only as secure as its physical storage location. Treat it like any other sensitive document — your will, your deed, your passport. Keep it safe, and make sure the right people know where to find it.

A Guide, Not a Replacement

This document is designed to be a roadmap for your loved ones — a way to help them find what they need during a difficult time. It should point them to where your important documents are stored, not replace those documents.

Original documents like wills, deeds, titles, powers of attorney, and insurance policies should always be kept in secure physical locations. Use this document to tell your family where to find them.
